Meet Shilpa P. Saxena, MD, IFMCP

Medical Director

Forum Health Tampa

&

Chief Medical Officer

Forum Health

Dr. Saxena graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine through the prestigious Junior Honors Medical Program, completed her Family Practice residency training at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida while serving as Chief Resident and receiving additional Certification in Low Risk Obstetrics. She solidified her understanding of the continuum of health and disease but saw so many missed opportunities for disease reversal when caring for the rural and urban underserved families of North Jacksonville.

Shilpa P. Saxena, MD, IFMCP is a Board-Certified family physician whose passion and purpose come to life through an uncompromising dedication to the 'health' and 'care' aspects of healthcare.

In July 2019, her practice joined Forum Health, a nationwide provider of personalized health services. Beyond continuing to practice as Medical. Director of Forum Health Tampa, Dr. Saxena serves as Chief Medical Officer at Forum Health.

Her commitment for professional growth is evident. In addition to over 15 years of progressive patient care in her successful medical practices, Dr. Saxena is Senior Faculty with the Institute for Functional Medicine, as well as contributing faculty or physician educator roles with the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, Faculty, George Washington University's Metabolic Medicine Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and Universidad San ignacio de Loyola (Lima, Perú).

But more importantly to her, she understands that the brightest of physicians or educators is of little value to the patient who cannot be empowered by that knowledge. As a consummate teacher, she is on a mission to get simple, actionable, lifestyle-based solutions to patients interested in helping themselves heal. She is internationally known for her contributions on the development and institution of the lifestyle-based group medical appointment model and has been awarded for her work with her online patient university, Living Wellness University. By marrying the science of healing with the art of patient education and partnership, she is creating opportunities for patients and healthcare providers to get back to the sacred healing relationship that was once a vital part of her noble profession.

Inspired to create a doctor’s office that offered all the meaningful components of good patient care, she opened the SevaMed Institute, applying her core principle of ‘Patients Powered by Knowledge.’ Her practical approach, then and now as CMO with Forum Health Tampa and Forum Health nationwide, focuses on treating and reversing the root causes of illness, the obvious solution to the chronic disease epidemic. Her extraordinary patient outcomes have attracted the attention of local, national and international patient and physician communities who are equally motivated to transform healthcare.

She enjoys supporting her local, national and international patient communities through her cutting-edge telemedicine offerings as well as incorporating her famous virtual group medical appointments.  Dr. Saxena has studied the impact of social health on disease reversal and is always excited to bring the power of community to the table as a necessary and vital aspect of healthcare.

Whether she is partnering with her own patients, training new-to-functional-medicine healthcare providers at conferences, or collaborating with functional medicine thought leaders, it is evident Dr. Shilpa P. Saxena is 110% devoted to making functional and integrative medicine available to the masses. This is her mission and inspiration.

As functional medicine consultants, we develop a comprehensive care plan that includes and integrates your whole body; however, we advise you maintain your existing relationships with a primary care physician  and/or specialists so they can continue to provide urgent, emergent and standard of care services generally covered by insurance alone.
